Women's Volleyball Edges Hunter in Five

Union, N.J. (10/27/17) - The Kean University women's volley ball team topped Hunter College in a five set thriller on Friday night.  

The Cougars (25-9) took the first set on the night.  It was knotted up 13-13 until Kean went on an eight point run spurred by great serving from Julia Fiore who added two aces.

Hunter dominated in the second set behind Marlena Budna to tie the match at one.  

Kean rallied back in the third set in what was a see-saw affair to gain a 2-1 advantage.

Trailing 24-19 in the fourth set the Cougars stormed back behind Joelle Tondi at serve and knotted the game at 24-all and took a one point lead at 25-24.  The Hawks (25-4) settled and closed out the set with three straight points, including an ace from I to force the deciding fifth set.

Hunter took an early lead, but Kean fought back and tied the match at seven-all on a block from Brett Harper and Jesse Larkin, one of the Cougars 15 blocks on the night.  From there the score would not deviate more than three points as Kean scored the final three points of the night to earn their 25th win of the year.

Sara Ridgway finished with 12 kills (.423%) and six blocks while Tondi added seven kills and 11 digs.  Larkin provided eight kills and seven blocks while Harper finished with eight kills and six blocks.

The Cougars close out the regular season on Saturday with a tri-match against City College of New York and Arcadia University.
