Volleyball Splits Matches on Senior Day

UNION, N.J. (10/28/17)- The Kean University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches with Arcadia University and the City College of New York during a senior day Tri-match at Harwood Arena on Saturday.  

Kean 3, CCNY 0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-19)  

The Cougars opened the afternoon by pushing their current winning streak to seven games with a sweep of the Beavers. Andrea Antal finished with a season-high 10 kills as Kean started slow, but used a .324 hitting percentage in the second set alone, to overwhelm CCNY. Calli Scheuermann, Sara Ridgway, Joelle Tondi and Kendall Sonico were all honored before the match of the day. The quartet of seniors combined for 20 kills and 37 digs.  Sonico added 28 assists for the Cougars who improved to 26-10 overall.

Arcadia 3, Kean 1 (25-18, 22-25, 17-25, 19-25)

Brett Harper, Vikki Stec and Ridgway combined for 30 of the Cougars 44 kills as Kean had their seven game winning streak snapped by the Knights.  After taking the first set, the Knights took three straight from the Cougars, including double-digit kills from Allison Elechko and Lizzie Joseph.

Brianna Calvano finished with 23 assists, while Kortnee Nelson added 16 digs and Stec totaled 11 digs in the loss.

Head Coach Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 2 in the semifinals of the NJAC tournament at 7:00 p.m. The Cougars will host the winner of the first round matchup between the fourth seeded Redhawks of Montclair State University and the fifth seeded Profs of Rowan University.
