UNION, N.J. (11/2/17) - Senior Sara Ridgway and junior Vikki Stec combined for 28 kills as the Kean University women's volleyball team advanced to their first NJAC final under Head Coach Don Perkins with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-20) sweep of Montclair State University on Wednesday evening.
The top seeded Cougars improve to 27-10 overall and advance to Saturday's NJAC Championship game against the third seeded Ospreys of Stockton University. The Redhawks finish their season at 14-20 overall.
Kean dominated from wire-to-wire, posting a combined .432 hitting percentage with just eight errors all match. In fact, the Cougars hitting percentage never dripped below .400 all night.
Ridgway finished with a stellar 14 kills and a staggering .778 hitting percentage, while Stec totaled 14 kills, a .429 hitting percentage and six digs.
Five of the six Kean starters combined for all 49 kills, including nine from Jesse Larkin and seven from Brett Harper. Larkin finshed with a .692 hitting percentage and Harper posted a .294 hitting percentage. Brianna Calvano finished with 42 assists, while Kortnee Nelson totaled 15 digs.
Coach Perkins and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 4th in the NJAC Championship, hosting the Ospreys of Stockton University at 1:00 p.m.
