Women’s Volleyball Draws Johns Hopkins in First Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (11/6/17) - After capturing their first NJAC title since 2001, the Kean University women's volleyball team drew the #14 Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament.

The 28-10 Cougars will face the 24-3 Blue Jays at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Maryland on Friday Nov. 10th at 5:30 p.m. The Mustangs are the host site for the regional, which will welcome Hunter College from the CUNY, Swarthmore College from the Centennial Conference, Randolph-Macon College from the ODAC, Eastern University from the MAC Freedom, Carnegie Mellon from the PAC.

Kean survived a five-set thriller with Stockton University to capture their first NJAC championship under Head Coach Don Perkins on Saturday. Johns Hopkins won their second straight Centennial title beating Swarthmore, 3-1 on Sunday. Simone Bliss tallied 16 kills, while Elizabeth Wuerstle finished with 11 kills and eight digs as she was named the tournament's MVP.

The winner of Kean and JHU will face the winner of Hunter and Stevenson on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. The other half of the regional has Carnegie Mellon squaring off with Eastern and Swathmore taking on Randolph-Macon. The winners of those matches will meet on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The regional final will take place on Sunday with the winner earning a spot in the quarterfinals, the following weekend at Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.
