WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (11/14/16) – Members of the Kean University athletic training club volunteered for Special Olympics of New Jersey at the annual Shriver Cup Unified Soccer Championship last week. Members of the club provided first aid and athletic training services for all athletes.
In addition, the Kean club members worked at the scorer’s table, were ball runners during the games and helped to facilitate all gameday operations. Kean University also fielded a Unified team that took part in the event held at Mercer County Park.
Unified Sports is dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences and joins people with and without disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
Athletes who participate in College Unified Sports must be 16 years of age or older, understand team sports, and feel comfortable in a competitive setting. Any current college students regardless of prior sports experience can become a Unified Partner.
