Union, N.J. (5/6/17) – Monny Strickland hit an RBI double in the top of the 12th to send Rowan University to a 4-3 win over Kean University in NJAC Baseball Tournament action on Saturday night.
With the loss Kean will face The College of New Jersey in an elimination game on Sunday at noon. Rowan advances to the 7 p.m. game against an opponent yet to be determined.
Kean (23-18) led 3-1 after the third inning. The Cougars put together two runs on two hits in the second to take a 2-1 lead as Brian Cole recorded an RBI sacrifice and Derek Walker singled up the middle. Matt Krupa added to the lead in the third with a two out, RBI single up the middle.
The score would remain that way until the eighth as the Profs (28-14) rallied with two out. After back-to-back strikeouts to start the inning, Jason Clapper singled to get things going. Alex Kokus added a single of his own and Shawn Leydon drove them both home with a double down the line.
In total, the Profs left 20 runners on base in the contest.
Rob Grilli (5-3) earned the win in relief. He allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three in five innings of work. Austin Arndt suffered the loss after allowing one run in three innings of relief.
For the Cougars Nick Polizzano (pictured left) was 3-for-5 while Clapper was 3-for-6 in the leadoff spot for Rowan.
