Mahwah, N.J. (5/1/18) – Ramapo College rallied for a run in the bottom of the ninth to break a 3-3 deadlock, topping the Kean University baseball team by the final of 4-3 in the first round of the NJAC Tournament.
Joe Maugeri led the Roadrunners who improve to 30-11 this spring and advance to take on third seeded Rowan on Friday at 3:30 p.m. All remaining games in the tournament will be held at Jim Hynes Stadium.
John Carello led the Cougars (19-22) offensively with a 2-for-4 day with two RBI. Kean will square off against #6 William Paterson in an elimination game on Friday at noon.
Ramapo got on the board early with two runs in the first frame with a sacrifice fly and while scoring on a passed ball. Kean cut the deficit in half in the sixth with a two out, RBI single from Carello.
The Cougars took their only lead of the day with two runs in the eighth. Kean produced four straight singles to start the inning, resulting in two runs. Carello and Matt Krupa collected RBI in the span.
Ramapo answered right back with an RBI double from Connor Walsh in the same inning with two outs to knot the score at three-all.
The Roadrunners won the game on a Cougar miscue with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
Justin Diefenbach suffered the complete game loss. He (3-3) allowed two earned runs and 10 hits. He fanned six and walked three.
Kevin Foulds earned the win in relief. He tossed one and a third allowing one walk while picking up a strikeout.
