Baseball Pushes Past Gwynedd Mercy, 5-3

Union, N.J. (2/16/19) – Tyler Hopman tossed seven innings of two hit ball, allowing just one run, as the Kean University baseball team made it two in a row defeating Gwynedd Mercy University by the final of 5-3.

Nick Polizzano led all hitters with a 3-for-4 day with two doubles and a run scored.

The Griffins (0-2) scratched across a single run in their first at-bat as Ryan Keen blooped a double down the left field line with two outs, scoring Sachael Sciarretta who reached on a leadoff hit batsmen. 

The Cougars (2-0) tied things up in their half of the third as Derek Walker led off the frame with a double.  He moved to third on a sacrifice and John Carello drove him in with a double of his own. 

Kean used a three-run sixth inning to take the lead for good, using three doubles and two singles.  Frank LoGiudice, Steve Santigate and Polizzano all collected doubles in the frame.

Gwynedd Mercy got one back in the eighth with the aid of two walks and three hit batsmen, but Kean sealed the win with one more in the same inning with an RBI single from Conner DeForge

Walker and DeForge each finished with two hits for the Cougars in the win.

Kean returns to action on Sunday when they host the College at Brockport at 11 a.m.
