Baseball Improves to 6-1 with Win Over FDU-Florham

Union, N.J. (2/24/19) – The Kean University baseball team made it three in a row with a 7-3 win over FDU-Florham on Sunday afternoon.

The combo of John Carello and Derek Walker led the top of the lineup with five hits, four runs scored, a triple and two RBI for Kean (6-1). 

The Devils (0-1) plated the first run of the day as they started the day with three straight singles, including an RBI single from AJ Yurista.  Starter Frank LoGiudice settled down from there and retired the next three batters to escape the first inning jam.

Kean answered in the bottom of the same frame as Zachary Marzano crossed the plate after reaching on a fielders choice.

The Cougars took the lead for good in the third with another single run.  Carello walked to get on with one out in the inning and later crossed the plate on a groundout from LoGiudice. 

Kean added insurance in the fifth with a two RBI single from Nick Polizzano and an RBI single from Michael Lapczynski.

FDU cut the deficit to two with an RBI groundout and RBI single in the sixth, but that would be as close as they would come as reliever Justin Hernandez entered and got the third out of the inning with three straight strikes.  He would go on to strikeout five while walking just one in three and a third shutout innings for his first save of the year.

LoGiudice earned the win after tossing five and two thirds innings allowing three runs and seven hits.  He (1-1) fanned one and walked two.

Polizzano finished with a 2-for-2 day with two RBI and a walk while Lapczynski was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Kean returns to action on Tuesday when they host Moravian.
