Heidelberg Pushes Past Baseball, 9-6

Port Charlotte, Fla. (3/8/19) – Heidelberg University rallied with five runs to push past #25 Kean University by the final of 9-6 on Friday afternoon in the Snowbird Classic.

Brandon Johannessen was 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Cougars who fall to 7-2 on the year.  The Berg were led by Matt Psychas who was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI and two triples.  Heidelberg improves to 6-2.

It was an offensive battle as Kean scored at least one run in each of the first five innings.  Despite holding the lead, the Berg chipped away and responded plating runs in four of the first six innings.

With the Cougars holding a 5-2 lead in the fourth inning, the Berg cut the deficit to one as Kyle Jenkins delivered a one out, two RBI single with the bases loaded.  Justin Hernandez entered the game and got Kean out of further trouble with a strikeout and groundout to end the inning.

Kean got one back in the top of the next inning as Chris Ciaccio recorded a two out double and later scored on an RBI single from Johannessen.

Heidelberg took the lead, a lead they would not relinquish, in the bottom of the sixth.  Jake Davis registered the go-ahead hit, a two RBI double down the line with the bases loaded.  They added insurance in the seventh as Psychas recorded his second triple of the day, driving in one while Keaton Mark lofted a sac fly.

Kean returns to action on Saturday when they face Baldwin Wallace University at 12:30 p.m. in Punta Gorda.
