Weyand Spins Gem in 3-0 Win Over Arcadia

Port Charlotte, Fla. (3/10/19) – Freshman Bruce Weyand tossed eight plus innings of shutout ball as the Kean University baseball team earned their second win of the day by defeating Aracadia University, 3-0 in the nightcap.

Weyand (1-0) fanned eight and walked four while scattering five singles in his collegiate debut.  Zachary Marzano earned his first save of the season after entering the ninth with two on and no one out.  He used one pitch to get a double play and struck out Zak Thomas for the final out of the day.

Kean (9-3) scored single runs in the first, fourth and eighth for the win.  In the bottom of the first John Carello got things going with a leadoff walk.  He would move to second on a wild pitch and 90 feet away on a sacrifice.  He crossed the plate on a groundout from Frank LoGiudice for a 1-0 lead.

Steve Santigate lined a one out double in the fourth and later moved to third on a wild pitch.  He made it 2-0 after scoring on a sacrifice from Chris Ciaccio.

The Cougars added insurance in the eighth as Derek Walker scored on an error after reaching on a single.
