Hopman's Complete Game Lifts Baseball Over Keystone

Union, N.J. (3/24/19)Tyler Hopman tossed a complete game, striking out eight, as the Kean University baseball team topped Keystone College by the final of 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Hopman (2-2) allowed just one run (a leadoff solo homerun) while scattering seven hits.

Keystone's (3-6) leadoff hitter Mohammed Hussein took an 0-2 pitch and deposited it just over the leftfield fence for the game's first run.

That lead was short-lived as the Cougars (12-6) got that run back in the bottom of the same inning.  John Carello got things rolling with a single, quickly stole second and advanced to third on a groundout.  He would scamper home on a double steal attempt.

The Cougars scored the go-ahead runs in the fourth inning with a three spot, aided by two errors.  Tim Huxen and Chris Vetter each recorded RBI in the frame.

Offensively Carello and Nick Polizzano each had two hits for Kean while Chris Panzarella and Dakota McFadden each had two hits for the Giants.

McFadden (1-2) suffered the loss after allowing four runs, one earned, with six walks and no strikeouts.

Kean returns to action on Tuesday when they face Gwynedd Mercy University in a recently added game.
