Union, N.J. (3/26/19) – The Kean University baseball team pounded out 12 runs on 16 hits to top Gwynedd Mercy University for the second time this season, this time by the final of 12-6.
The Cougars (13-6) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after two innings of play as Polizzano lined a two out double in the first to drive in one. Brandon Johannessen drove in two with his double in the second inning for the quick lead.
The lead was short lived as Gwynedd Mercy (5-9) got all three runs back in the third, all with two outs. Dave Tatoian started the short rally with a double. He would eventually score on a throwing error while Josh Lopez and Ryan Keen each later collected RBI singles.
The Griffins took their only lead of the day with a single run in the fifth as Tatoian again got things going with a double. He would move to third on a passed ball and came around to score on a sac fly.
Kean regained the lead for good with a four spot in the bottom of the same frame. Highlighting the inning was an RBI double from Polizzano and a three run homer from Marzano.
Offensively for the Griffins, Tatoian was 3-for-4 with two runs scored in his leadoff role.
Relief pitcher Christopher Rossi earned the win for Kean. Rossi (2-1) tossed five innings allowing three runs and seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Starter Bryan Kaelin (1-4) suffered the loss for Gwynedd Mercy.
Kean will return to action in their first "official" road game of the season when they travel to Farmingdale State College on Wednesday.
