Union, N.J. (4/12/19) – Ramapo College used two timely hits to slip past the Kean University baseball team by the final of 4-2.
The Cougars (18-11, 5-3 NJAC) outhit the Roadrunners, 9-5, but left eight runners stranded in the loss.
CJ Growney (2-3) earned the win after tossing seven innings allowing two runs and seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Greg Westhelle earned his fourth save of the season after two scoreless innings giving up two hits and a walk.
Vincent Timpanelli recorded one of the two timely hits in the first inning, driving in two with one out.
Kean returned the favor in the same inning as Zachary Marzano lined a two RBI single up the middle with two outs to knot the score at two-all.
The Roadrunners (14-10, 5-3 NJAC) took the lead for good in the sixth with a single run as Philip Mahlik lofted a sacrifice fly with one out. Ramapo added insurance in the ninth as pinch-hitter Kellen Hardy doubled just over the outstretched arm of the shortstop, driving in one for what would be the final of 4-2.
Nick Polizzano was the only player on the day with multiple hits as he was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Kean returns to action on Saturday for a twinbill against Rutgers-Newark at 11:30 a.m.
