Union, N.J. (5/18/19) – Frank LoGiudice tossed eight strong innings and picked up three hits to help the Kean University baseball team stay undefeated in regional action as they topped Westfield State University, 9-1 on Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Cougars (31-14) advance to the regional championship where they will face Shenandoah University on Sunday at noon.
LoGuidice allowed just four hits and no earned runs as he improved to 8-2 on the season. Offensively he was 3-for-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI.
Kean jumped out of the gate with two runs in the top of the first. Zachary Marzano delivered with a two RBI single. The Cougars added three more in the top of the third, taking advantage of two fielding miscues by the Owls. Nick Polizzano registered an RBI sacrifice while Mike Perone Jr. and Marzano each collected RBI singles.
The Cougars added a single run in the fourth and rounded out the scoring with a three spot in the fifth.
Offensively John Carello was 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored while Perone was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
For the Owls (28-15), Anthony Crowley tallied two of the team's five hits.
