Brockport, N.Y. (10/26/13) - Junior Shireem Cobb ran for 119 yards and one touchdown leading The College at Brockport football team to a 17-7 victory over Kean University Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.
Brockport (4-3 Overall, 3-1 NJAC) ran the ball 51 times for a total of 197 yards in windy and rainy conditions as neither team was really able to get their offense going.
The Golden Eagles scored the only points of the first half as freshman kicker Tyler Perna booted a 22-yard field goal with less than 1:30 left in the first quarter.
In the second half, freshman Dan Andrews capped a short Brockport dive with a 10-yard scoring run for the first touchdown of the game, and a 10-0 advantage. The Golden Eagles added a second TD in the third quarter when Cobb bullied his way into the end zone on a three-year run giving Brockport a 17-0 lead.
Kean (1-6, 0-4) scored its only points of the game with five minutes remaining in the contest with a two-yard run by junior Kevin O'Connor at the end of the nine-play, 85-yard drive. Faced with a fourth-and three on their own 33 yard line, sophomore Robert Meade III found rookie Tahj Hammary for a 52 yard pickup, putting the Cougars in the redzone. Four plays later, O'Connor (pictured left) erased the shutout with a two yard rush.
The ensuing onside kick was recovered by Brockport and the Golden Eagles were able to hold the lead down the stretch for the win.
Senior Tyler Jones led the defense with 11 total tackles, in addition to two tackles for a loss. O'Connor finished the day with 66 yards on the ground while Meade was 13-of-33 for 135 yards with no interceptions. Meade also recorded 62 yards on the ground.
The Cougars return home to face Morrisville State College on Saturday, November 2nd with a noon kickoff.
