Buena Vista, Va. (10/31/15) – The Kean University football team recorded 500+ yards of offense on their way to topping host Southern Virginia University by the final of 37-6 on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (5-3, 4-3 NJAC) put a quick seven points on the board near the end of the first quarter as Corredor used a short field opportunity and punched across a 29 yard run for the game's first score.
Kean then pulled away with 20 points in the second quarter on their way to their fifth win of the season. In the quarter quarterback Charles App anchored three touchdowns with receptions by Johnson (12 and 47 yards) and Tyler Hopman (27 yards).
Southern Virginia (0-8, 0-7 NJAC) erased the shutout when they blocked a punt near the endzone and fell on it for their only six points of the day. In total the Cougar defense held SVU to just 211 yards of total offense and 74 yards on the ground.
The defense was led by Darin Hungerford who tallied 13 total tackles, a game-high, in addition to two sacks, a forced fumble and fumble recovery. Vaughn Scott recorded six tackles and an interception while David Coleman Jr. finished with four tackles and a blocked kick.
App (pictured left) was 16-of-23 for 188 yards and four touchdowns.
The Cougars return home for their final home game of the season on Saturday, November 7th against Rowan University.
