UNION, N.J. (10/28/17)- Charles App went 21-for-28 with a touchdown pass as the Kean University football team dispatched Christopher Newport University, 27-7 on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars improve to 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the NJAC, while the Captains fell to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the NJAC.
Kean scored 17 unanswered points in the first quarter alone with David Patterson Jr. and Kyle Rooney both touching the endzone. Patterson scored on a four yard run after only a four play drive and Rooney caught a four yard pass from App after another four play drive. Marcin Zadlo nailed a 28-yard field goal between both Kean touchdowns.
After CNU scored on an eight play drive in the second quarter, Kean held a 17-7 lead entering the final quarter. In the fourth, Kean added to their lead with another chip shot field goal from Zadlo and a Marquis Oliver fumble recovery for a touchdown.
On the defensive side, Darin Hungerford totaled nine tackles, including two and a half tackles for loss and two quarterback hurries. Louie Zambardino racked up seven solo tackles, while Oliver added two sacks and three tackles for loss.
Head Coach Dan Garrett and the Cougars will return to the gridiron in Frostburg, Md. on Saturday, Nov. 4th, against the nationally-ranked Bobcat of Frostburg State University at 1:00 p.m.
