FROSTBURG, Md. (11/4/17)- Darin Hungerford broke his own school record for tackles in a single game with 25 as the Kean University football team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to Frostburg State University, 17-14 on Saturday afternoon.
T.J. Peer went 18-for-32 with two touchdowns for the Bobcats, who improve to 8-1 overall and 7-1 in the NJAC. Charles App completed 15 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns for the Cougars, who fall to 4-5 overall and 4-4 in the NJAC.
After a scoreless first quarter, FSU struck first with a 37-yard field goal for the 3-0 lead. Kean responded with a touchdown just two minutes later; as App connected on an 8-yard pass to David Patterson Jr. for the 7-3 lead. The two play, 81-yard drive was set up by a 73-yard pass from App to Tyler Franco Rodriguez.
App answered one more time before the end of the first half, as he connected with Ben Guarino for a two-yard touchdown pass and the 14-3 halftime advantage.
FSU would touch the end zone twice in the third quarter for 14 unanswered points, as the Bobcats regained the lead at 17-14. The Cougars offense stalled late in the third and through the fourth, collecting -5 yards in the final quarter and a half.
Hungerford broke his own record of 21 tackles, set on Oct. 15, 2016, against Wesley. The linebacker finished with 10 solo tackles, one sack and 1 ½ tackles for loss.
Head Coach Dan Garrett and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 11th, hosting the Profs of Rowan University for senior day, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
