Field Hockey Moves to 3-0 by Dispatching Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. (9/3/14) – Junior Marissa Robinson scored twice to lead the Kean University field hockey team to a 5-1 victory over Marywood University on Wednesday night. In addition, freshmen Chelsea Mann and Raykena Brown scored their first collegiate goals for the Cougars in the contest.

Kean (3-0) dominated from start to finish, and allowed just two shots during the game while taking 25. Mann got things going quickly, scoring off a deflection less than four minutes into the match with an assist from Jordan Colna.

Bridgette Bottinelli continued her hot start to the season shortly thereafter, as she redirected a crossing pass from Mann past the goaltender to double the Kean lead to 2-0. Marywood subsequently got a goal to trim the lead back down to 2-1.

With less than one minute remaining before halftime, Robinson lifted the ball over the goalie's head and into the netting for Kean's third goal.

Just a few minutes into the second half, Brown (pictured left) notched her first college goal by tipping in a hard pass from classmate Shauna LaMaina to put Kean up 4-1. Seven minutes later, Robinson struck again from close range. She emerged from a scrum five yards out and scored with an assist from Colna to cap the scoring in the game.

Katie DiCarlo earned the win for Kean in the cage and is now 3-0 on the year. Freshman Kimberly Ging made her college debut in the game and shutout Marywood (1-1) for the final 19 minutes of the game.

Kean will return home for the first time in 2014 on Saturday, when the Cougars host Stevens Institute of Technology at 1 p.m. at Kean Alumni Stadium.
