SCRANTON, Pa. (10/25/16) – Krista LaMaina scored in the 62nd minute to provide the only goal of the game as the No. 18 Kean University field hockey team topped Marywood University on Tuesday night. The Cougars dominated play throughout the night, and outshot the Pacers 32-2.
Fittingly, the goal required multiple shots to be scored: the original volley was saved, LaMaina grabbed the rebound and shoveled it in to break the scoreless tie. It was her 22nd goal of the season.
Kerri Mountz was impressive with an incredible 17 saves to keep Marywood in the game. In contrast, Erin Smith (pictured left) was asked to make just one save for the Cougars, but she did it and earned her fourth shutout of the season.
The Cougars are now 15-2 overall. Marywood sank to 10-6 with the setback.
Kean will wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a tip to William Paterson University at 1 p.m. With a win, the Cougars will wrap up the three-seed in the upcoming NJAC Tournament, which is set to begin next Wednesday, November 2.
