New Paltz, N.Y. (10/7/17) – The Kean University field hockey team remained undefeated as they edged SUNY New Paltz by the final of 2-1 on Saturday in non-conference action.
The #15 Cougars improve to 13-0, while the Hawks drop to 4-8.
Kean opened the scoring just more than three minutes into the contest on a goal from senior Krista LaMaina that was assisted by sophomore Lia DiPiazza. LaMainia tallied her second goal of the game at the 8:25 mark off a helper from senior Teresa Carr to make it a 2-0 game.
The Hawks were awarded a penalty stroke in the 49th minute. Junior Paige Gladstone took the shot, which bounced off of Kean's goalkeeper to cut the deficit in half.
Megan Gangewere registered 15 saves on the day in the loss.
Kean outshot the Hawks 23-7 and held a slim 12-10 advantage in penalty corners.
The Cougars travel to Neumann University on Tuesday in non-conference action.
