IMMACULATA, Pa. (10/13/18)- Melissa Way scored two goals as the Kean University field hockey team netted five goals in a 5-2 victory over Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon.
Kayla Molnar scored and assisted on a goal for the Cougars who improve to 6-9 overall. Colleen Bradley notched two goals for the Mighty Macs who fall to 1-16 overall.
After the Mighty Macs scored first, Kean answered with back-to-back goals by Way and Jenna Patrone for a 2-1 halftime advantage. Way scored her first goal after carrying the ball up the right side and cut into the middle to beat the keeper, while Patrone scored off a Rachel Mills corner attempt. The Cougars outshot (17-1) and out-cornered (9-0) the Macs in the opening stanza.
Kean increased their lead to 3-1in the 43rd minute when Molnar scored on a backhanded shot from just inside the circle. Immaculata cut the lead in half less than four minutes later, before the Cougars ended the contest with the final two goals. Molnar assisted on the next goal to Brenna Delbagno in the 59th minute and Way tallied her second goal in the 62nd minute. Delbagno scored from a centering pass that came off a rebound, while Way scored with a shot from directly in front of the cage.
Kean finished the match dominating on shots (29-3) and (17-2) on corners. Patrone tallied 10 shots, while Molnar took five shots. Erin Donnelly and Mills both totaled three shots. Megan Houser and Bailee Mullen both saw action in goal.
Head Coach Leslie LaFronz and the Cougars will return to action in Mahwah, N.J. on Tuesday, Oct. 16th, against the Roadrunners of Ramapo College at 4:00 p.m.
