Ewing, N.J. (2/2/11) – Senior Jonathan Jones recorded his 20th double-double of the season as the Kean University men's team picked up their 15th win of the season by defeating The College of New Jersey, 71-55.
The Cougars 15 wins are the most in a season since the 2005-06 campaign. Jones (pictured left) finished the evening with a game-high 28 points and 13 rebounds and shot 79% from the floor in the winning effort. The loss drops TCNJ to 3-17, 0-9 in the NJAC.
The Cougars (15-6, 7-2) held a slim lead for most of the low scoring first half. Jones led Kean with nine first half points as the Cougars held a 25-22 advantage at the break.
Kean slowly added to their lead in the second half and held their first double-digit lead of the evening with an 8-1 run with just over 10 minutes to go in the game. Senior Rob Lewis had two points and Jones added eight in the run. The Cougars then paced the rest of the second half, leading by as many as 22.
Freshman Kyle Latorre finished with eight points in 11 minutes of action while rookie Andrew Kirey added six points and four rebounds. Sophomore Mike Shaughnessy recorded six assists and five rebounds.
Kean returns to action when they host Rowan University on Saturday, February 5th at 3 p.m.
