Hoboken, N.J. (12/10/11) – Sophomore Kyle Latorre scored a team-high 22 points, but it wasn't enough as host Stevens Institute of Technology topped the Kean University men's basketball team, 75-64, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
Latorre finished one rebound shy of a double-double as Kean fell to 2-6 overall this season. Mike Cutri led the Ducks with a double-double 29 points and 17 rebounds as Stevens improved to 7-2 this season.
After a close matchup in the first eight minutes of action, Stevens used a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to pull ahead, 26-15. The Cougars chipped away and after trailing by as many as 13 closed that gap to just two with 10 seconds to go in the half as senior Andrew Kirey completed the four-point play. (36-34). The Ducks got a bucket back at the buzzer to head into the break with a 38-34 lead. Latorre led Kean with 15 first-half points while Kirey and senior Leigh Keenan added seven.
Despite keeping the gap close in the second-half, Kean was never able to tie or take the lead.
Both Kirey and Keenan finished in double-digits with 10 points while sophomore Kenny Pace added nine points.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday for their final home game of the 2011 season as they host Elms College at 3 p.m.
