Men’s Basketball Upended at Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. (1/29/14) – The Kean University men's basketball team dropped an 81-67 decision at NJAC rival Ramapo College on Wednesday night. Kyle Latorre highlighted play for the Cougars; he shot 5-for-5 from the field, scored 13 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

With the win Ramapo rose to 8-11 on the year and 5-7 in the NJAC, while Kean moved to 10-8 and 6-5 in the league.

The Roadrunners led wire-to-wire. Though many categories on the final stat sheet were comparable (field goal percentage, steals, blocks, etc.), Ramapo scored 19 more points from the free throw line (in more than twice as many opportunities), shot nearly twice as well from three-point range and was able to get to 33 percent more rebounds.

For Kean, senior Mike Burton had a good night with a team-high 20 points, while Tom Soulias (pictured left) and J.J. Hladik combined to shoot 50 percent from behind the arc.

Ramapo was led by Jermaine Emmanuel, who scored 33 points in his 33 minutes of work.

Kean will be back on the hardwood on Saturday for a 4 p.m. road date with the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University.
