MONTCLAIR, N.J. (2/12/14) – All four members of the Kean University men's basketball senior class were in double figures against Montclair State University but it was not enough as the Cougars fell in a 100-83 Saturday shootout.
Seniors Kyle Latorre, Xavier Fuller, Ali Mix and Mike Burton combined for 57 points in the matchup, with Burton leading all Cougars with 19. Fuller (pictured left) posted his team-leading third double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Montclair got off to a hot start and never looked back. The Red Hawks took a 46-31 halftime lead on 57 percent shooting, and actually improved that mark in the second half to clinch the pivotal NJAC matchup.
Kean is now an even 12-12 on the season and 8-9 in the NJAC, while Montclair improved to 10-13 and 7-10 in the league with one game remaining.
MSU was led by guard Angel Gonzalez, who scored 29 points on the afternoon.
Kean will play its final regular season game on Wednesday when the Cougars host Rutgers-Newark on Senior Night for Fuller, Mix, Latorre and Burton. With a win on Wednesday, Kean will guarantee itself a berth in the NJAC Tournament.
