Men’s Basketball Falls in Opener of Luck Stone Holiday Tournament

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. (12/18/14)J.J. Hladik scored 12 first-half points but the Kean University men's basketball team fell to host Hampden-Sydney College in the first round of the Luck Stone Holiday Tournament on Thursday night in an 80-56 final.

The Cougars (2-7) led at the break 36-29, as Hladik (pictured left) was 4-for-7 from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes. Tommy Soulias poured in another three treys and Mike Diamond hit a pair as Kean nailed a total of nine three-pointers in the first half, shooting better than 56 percent during that time.

In the second period, Kean cooled off and the undefeated Tigers (6-0) righted their ship. The hosts put up 51 points in the second period, putting the game out of reach.

Tim Steward led the Cougars with five rebounds, while point guard Emmanuel Omowole dished out five assists. Mitch Owens led the Lions with 21 points.

The Cougars will return to Hampden-Sydney on Friday for the consolation game of the Luck Stone Holiday Tournament at 1 p.m.
