UNION, N.J. (1/20/16) – The Kean University men's basketball team fell to Montclair State University 65-60 in a tense NJAC matchup on Wednesday night. Senior Mike Diamond made five three-pointers and freshman Diego Pujols scored 17 points for the Cougars.
Montclair was led by Erick Loften-Harris, who scored 20 points and led his team with five assists.
Despite trailing by 10 points at the break, Kean stayed within striking distance for much of the second period.
Pujols (pictured left) splashed a wide-open three with 2:51 to go in the game that got Kean within three. A minute later, Timothy Bradley knocked down another big trey to get Kean within two. The Cougars had an impressive defensive stand at the other end to earn the ball back with a chance to tie with a bucket or even take the lead.
On that next possession, Micah Kerr's three-point shot was halfway in but just would not go down for the Cougars. It rattled out and Montclair made enough free throws to escape with the NJAC win.
The Cougars will hit the road on Saturday for a road NJAC date with the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights at 7 p.m.
