Men’s Basketball Topped by Del Val

UNION, N.J. (11/21/15) – Freshman Diego Pujols scored 16 points with nine assists and six rebounds, but the Kean University men's basketball team fell to Delaware Valley University 93-75 on Saturday evening.

Del Val led by as many as 19 in the first period, but the Cougars trimmed the lead to 12 by halftime and nearly had it in single digits by the midpoint, but for some unlucky breaks. Chris Moran led the Aggies with 14 points at the end of the first, while Justin Watson had nine for the Cougars. Both teams had hit just twice from behind the arc in the opening period.

A 7-0 Kean run with 15 minutes to go cut the Aggie lead to eight. Pujols had back-to-back layups and Tommy Soulias had two points in transition to lead the Kean resurgence.

The second half was much more competitive, with the Cougars (0-4) scoring 41 points in the period. But Kean ran out of time as Delaware Valley went home with the win.

Moran finished with a double-double - 29 points and 10 rebounds - to lead Del Val in both columns. Tyliek Kimbrough added 21 points for the Aggies (2-1).

Soulias ended the game with 26 points. Jodrell Thompson (pictured left) had Kean's two blocks, and Micah Kerr and Pujols both had a pair of steals.

Next up, the Cougars will open NJAC play on Tuesday at Montclair State University at 8 p.m.
