Pujols Paces Men’s Basketball in NJAC Opener

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (11/24/15) – Though the team mounted a furious second-half comeback, the Kean University men's basketball team fell to Montclair State University 74-64 in NJAC action on Tuesday night. It was the NJAC opener for the Cougars.

Freshman Diego Pujols (pictured left) had an impressive night with 21 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and five steals in the game – all of those totals led Kean on the night.

Mike Diamond was the only other Cougar in double figures. He had 11 points, while Justin Watson finished with seven points and five rebounds on 3-for-4 shooting.

Kean and MSU traded the lead over the first half, but the Red Hawks pulled away after halftime to go up by as many as 31 points midway through the second period. Still, the Cougars refused to capitulate and were in the process of whittling the lead back down before running out of time in the end.

Montclair was led by Brandon Channer, who had a game-high 25 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. He scored 18 of his 25 on three-pointers. The Red Hawks moved to 3-0 and 2-0 in the NJAC. Kean is 0-5 and 0-1 in the conference.

The Kean basketball program will have the rest of the week off for Thanksgiving before resuming the NJAC play on Wednesday, December 2 at Ramapo College.
