Grek Scores Career High in Loss to TCNJ

Union, N.J. (1/21/17) – Senior Kevin Grek collected a career-high and game-high 22 points in a 70-63 defeat to the College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.

The College of New Jersey (13-5, 9-2 NJAC) pushed their win streak to five games and were led by Corey Stanford who had a double-double 10 points and 14 rebounds.

The Lions gained control of the game early with an 11-2 run.  But the Cougars rallied and pulled within one (20-19) with 9:15 to go as Keenan Williams Jr. recorded two free throws.  The Lions responded with another big run, this time 14-2 to close out the first half with a 36-28 lead.

Stanford already had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the first 20 minutes while Jordan Glover added 12 with three from behind the arc.  For the Cougars, Michael Summer recorded five rebounds and four blocks in the first period.

TCNJ surged out of the intermission and gained their largest lead of the day, 57-39 with just over nine minutes to go as Elias Bermudez made a layup.  The Cougars didn't settle as Grek sparked a run (22-7) with four treys closing the deficit to just three (64-61) with 1:32 to go.

The Lions added six points down the stretch from the charity stripe and sealed the win.

Kean travels to Rutgers-Newark for a 8 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday.
