Men's Basketball Falls to Montclair State in NJAC Opener

Montclair, N.J. (11/21/17) – The Kean University men's basketball team suffered a 77-63 defeat in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday at Montclair State University.

Junior Michael Summerer had a double-double 10 points and 10 rebounds as Kean fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.  MSU remains undefeated and is now 3-0 and 1-0 in conference play.

After trailing by four early, the Cougars turned things around and pushed ahead to a nine point advantage with five minutes to go in the first half as Summerer registered back-to-back free-throws.  The Red Hawks would chip away down the stretch but Kean still held a slim two point lead at the break.  Rookie Adrian Baucum led the way with eight points in 17 minutes.

MSU adjusted at the break and started off the final 20 minutes on a 15-3 run to take a lead they would not relinquish.  Kean trimmed the deficit to four with six minutes left in the action on a point from the charity stripe from Keenan Williams Jr. but the Red Hawks kept the pressure on and scored 15 points down the stretch to put the game out of reach.

Baucum led all players with 15 points.

The Cougars will face New Jersey Institute of Technology in an exhibition game on Wednesday.
