Men's Basketball Rallies Past Rutgers-Newark, 74-63

Newark, N.J. (11/29/17) – The Kean University men's basketball team rallied from a 16 point deficit to pick up their first win of the season by topping Rutgers-Newark, 74-63.

Rookie Adrian Baucum led the Cougars (1-3, 1-1 NJAC) with 19 points as Kean breaks a nine-game skid dating back to last season.  Kean's last win was also against the Scarlet Raiders (2-3, 1-1 NJAC).

The Cougars suffered their largest deficit of the day, straight from the get-go, falling behind 18-2 with 12 minutes to go in the first half.  Kean slowly chipped away and knotted the game at 27-all over the course of the next 10 minutes.  Baucum's trey at 2:24 tied the game up and the Cougars trailed by just two at the intermission, 32-30.

Kean took their first lead of the day early in the second half as Keenan Williams Jr. knocked down a three (35-34).  Another three-pointer, this one from Vaughn Laki Anderson with 15:14 put the Cougars up for good. 

Justin Watson finished with 16 points and seven rebounds while DeAndre Thomas added 11 points on the night.  In total the Cougars shot 51% while holding the Scarlet Raiders to 33%.

Kean returns to action on Saturday when they host The College of New Jersey at 1 p.m.
