UNION, N.J. (12/2/17)- Keenan Williams Jr. and Adrian Baucum combined for 41 points as the Kean University men's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to the College of New Jersey, 76-64 on Saturday afternoon.
Eric Murdock Jr. finished with 23 points and six assists for the Lions who improve to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the NJAC. Williams finished with 21 and Baucum totaled 20 for the Cougars who fall to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC.
Williams Jr. and Baucum both tallied double figures in a very back and forth first half. Williams collected 14 and Baucum tallied 12 as Kean opened the contest with a 7-2 run. TCNJ responded with an 11-0 run to give the Lions a 15-9 lead with 9:51 to play. The Lions held the lead until the 4:19 mark when Williams knocked down a triple for their first lead since 9-8. The Cougars finished the half with a 10-3 run, including a Baucum three-pointer with four seconds remaining for a 37-31 advantage at halftime.
Kean opened the second half stretching their lead to the largest of the game at 41-33 with 17:25 remaining. The Lions answered with a 15-7 run over the next 5:33 to regain the advantage at 48-47 with 11:52 remaining. After trading baskets for the next four minutes, the Lions closed the contest with a 21-9 run over the final 7:24.
The Lions scored 28 points off the bench, including 13 from Ryan Jensen and 12 from Joe Montano. Vaughn Laki Anderson finished with 10 points, including six points in the second half.
Head Coach Rob Kurzinsky and the Cougars will return to action in Jersey City, N.J. on Wednesday, Dec. 6th, against the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University at 8:00 p.m.
