Men's Basketball Suffers Setback to Gwynedd Mercy

Union, N.J. (12/22/17) – The Kean University men's basketball team suffered a 103-85 setback to Gwynedd Mercy University on Friday evening in non-conference action.

The Cougars (3-7) had four players in double figures as rookie Adrian Baucum led the team with 18 followed by 16 from DeAndre Thomas, 15 from Micah Kerr and 11 from Stephen Strom.

The first 12 minutes of action were tight with neither team leading by more than a bucket.  The Griffins (9-1) then went on a 10-0 run over the course of a minute and a half.  Matt Carter started the spurt with a trey followed by a jumper and Ty Jones finished it off with a layup and three points from the charity stripe to put the score at 33-24.

Kean closed out the half on a run of their own (9-2) and pulled within six at the break (50-44).

Gwynedd Mercy held on to the lead for the entire second half with Kean coming as close as four with under 10 minutes to play on a layup from Carry Saturne.  The Griffins powered through pushing the lead back out to double-digits for good with just over two minutes to go in the game and would hold the advantage for the final.

The GMU was led by Will Davis with a game-high 29 points along with eight rebounds.  Rip Engel and Courtney Cubbage added 19 and 18 points respectively in the win.

Kean will take a small break for the holiday and return to action on December 30th when they travel to Stevens Institute of Technology for a 1 p.m. non-conference matchup.
