JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1/16/19)- Micah Kerr and Jailen Jamison combined for 42 of the Cougars 60 points as the Kean University men's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to New Jersey City University, 84-60 on Wednesday evening.
Yuri Brutus finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Gothic Knights who improve to 13-4 overall and 8-2 in the NJAC. Kerr scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down six boards for the Cougars who fall to 3-14 overall and 1-9 in the NJAC.
The Gothic Knights opened with a 20-5 run as Kean struggled to shoot the basketball all evening. The Cougars posted a 32.0% field goal percentage and a 25.0% three-point percentage in the contest. NJCU eventually stretched their lead to 37-20 with 3:07 remaining before the Cougars closed out the half on a 10-4 run that included eight points from Jamison. Kean trailed 40-30 at the break.
A three-minute scoring drought to open the second stanza allowed the Gothic Knights to expand their lead back to 20 and then eventually 25 before the final buzzer sounded.
Jamison totaled 18 points, six rebounds and went 11-for-14 from the charity line. Jared Latane added eight points and collected a rebound. On the bright side, the Cougars went 23-for-30 from the line in a game that saw 51 total fouls called.
Kerr continued his climb to 1,000 points and now stands at 929 points with eight games remaining.
Head Coach Adam Hutchinson and the Cougars will return to action in Montclair, N.J. on Saturday, Jan. 19th, against the Red Hawks of Montclair State University at 1:00 p.m.
