Three Starters Score in Double Figures as Men’s Basketball Downs Stockton

UNION, N.J. (2/6/19) – Micah Kerr finished with 20 points and nine rebounds to lead three starters in double figures as the Kean University men's basketball team downed Stockton University, 72-64 on Wednesday evening.

Justin Watson totaled 17 points and made five triples for the Cougars who improve to 6-17 overall and 4-12 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Jordan Taylor totaled 19 points and six boards for the Ospreys who fall to 9-14 overall and 7-9 in the NJAC.

The Cougars opened the contest on a 25-11 run sparked by 50.0% shooting from downtown and 41.9% shooting from the floor. Kerr scored all 13 of his first-half points during the run that lasted over the first 12:11 of the game.  After a mini 6-2 run by the Ospreys, that cut Kean's lead to 25-17 with 6:30 remaining, the Cougars stretched their lead to the largest of the half at 34-19 with 2:38 remaining. Jailen Jamison sank a layup with 36 seconds remaining as Kean took a 36-24 lead into halftime.

Jamison and Jared Latane combined for 11 points as the Cougars stretched their halftime advantage to 50-36 with 12:29 remaining. Stockton stayed within striking distance by cutting the Cougars lead to 62-55 with 3:13 to play in the contest. Kean closed the game on a 10-4 run before the final buzzer sounded.

Latane totaled seven points and two rebounds off the bench, while Jamison totaled 12 points, five rebounds, and eight assists.

Head Coach Adam Hutchinson and the Cougars will return to action in Ewing, N.J. on Saturday, Feb. 9th against the Lions of the College of New Jersey at 3:00 p.m.
