Men’s Basketball Falls Short in Season Opener Against Neumann

ASTON, Pa. (11/8/18)- Jared Latane collected a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Kean University men's basketball team came up short in their 2018-19 season opener against Neumann University, 75-66 on Thursday evening.

Aaron Johnson-Chavis finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Knights who improve to 1-0 overall. Latane knocked down four triples for the Cougars who fall to 0-1 overall.

The Cougars trailed early in the first half, but eventually took the lead with their high shooting percentage from the floor (42.9%) and from behind the arc (50.0%). Kean used their strong shooting to close out the first half with a 27-12 run over the final 9:18. During the run, Latane scored 11 of his 18 points, while Tre Gomez totaled eight points. The Cougars maintained a 37-31 advantage into the locker room.

Neumann opened the second half with an 11-0 run, before stretching their lead to the largest of the game at 67-55 with 5:29 remaining. Kean struggled to shoot the ball in the second stanza with 29.7% from the floor and 23.5% from the arc. The Cougars were able to bring the Knights lead down to five but couldn't get any closer.

Justin Watson totaled 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Micah Kerr added 12 points and five boards.

Head Coach Adam Hutchinson and the Cougars will return to action in New York, N.Y. on Saturday, Nov. 10th, against the Bearcats of Baruch College at 3:00 p.m.
