Men’s Basketball Dispatched by Nationally Ranked New Jersey City

UNION, N.J. (11/20/18) - Jailen Jamison and Jared Latane combined for 24 points as the Kean University men's basketball team was dispatched by nationally ranked New Jersey City University, 92-67 in the NJAC opener on Tuesday evening.

Sam Toney totaled 20 points and five rebounds for the Gothic Knights who improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Jamison finished with 14 points for the Cougars who fall to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.

After a fairly even first seven minutes, Kean took a 19-17 lead on a Nate Lyles dunk with 12:09 remaining in the first half. The Cougars pushed their advantage to the largest of the game at 28-21 with 8:32 remaining after back-to-back layups from Jamison.

The Gothic Knights would find their rhythm as they closed the opening stanza on a 27-9 run, which included seven points from both Toney and Lavrone Green. NJCU led 48-35 at the break.

In the second half, Kean couldn't recover as the Gothic Knights stretched their halftime lead to as large as 29 points at 83-54 with 4:24 to play.

Latane finished with 10 points, while Micah Kerr totaled eight points and two rebounds. Rob Scott totaled seven rebounds and six points in just 12 minutes off the bench.

Head Coach Adam Hutchinson and the Cougars will return to action in Newark, N.J. on Wednesday, Nov. 28th against the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark at 8:00 p.m.
