Men’s Basketball Grounded by Montclair State

UNION, N.J. (12/1/18) - Jared Latane finished with 17 points, six rebounds and three steals as the Kean University men's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to Montclair State University, 79-59 on Saturday afternoon.

Myles Mitchell-White and Akbar Hoffman both totaled 14 points apiece for the Red Hawks who improve to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the NJAC. Jodrell Thompson totaled 11 points and four assists for the Cougars who fall to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the NJAC.  

Kean took an early 5-3 lead on a Thompson triple, but a 10-5 run put MSU back in front fairly quickly. The Cougars climbed back to within four at 30-26 with a 13-5 run, but Montclair closed out the half with back-to-back buckets from Hoffman and a Justin Porter layup at the buzzer. Kean trailed 40-31 at the break.

The second half was all Montclair State as a 28-14 run pushed the lead to the largest of the game at 68-45 with 7:03 remaining.

Nate Lyles finished with nine points and four boards, while Thompson and Jailen Jamison each collected four assists.

Head Coach Adam Hutchinson and the Cougars will return to action in Mahwah, N.J. on Wed. Dec. 5th, against the Roadrunners of Ramapo College at 7:30 p.m.
