ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (12/14/18)- Jared Latane finished with 26 points and knocked down seven triples as the Kean University men's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to Stockton University, 76-72 at Boardwalk Hall on Friday evening.
Tariq Baker totaled 20 points and made five three-pointers for the Ospreys who improve to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the NJAC. Jailen Jamison finished with eight points, eight assists and six rebounds for the Cougars who fall to 1-10 overall and 0-6 in the NJAC.
Kean and Stockton both opened the game on a 12-0 run. The Cougars jumped out to a 12-0 lead on four straight three-pointers, including back-to-back triples from Latane. The Ospreys countered with their own 12-0 run to tie the contest up at 12-12 with 9:58 remaining.
After trading baskets for the remainder of the opening stanza, Kean closed the half with an 11-4 run to hold a 32-30 advantage at the break.
The halftime lead didn't last long as the Ospreys opened the second half with a 27-10 run that gave them the 54-42 lead with 11:46 to play. Stockton eventually pushed their lead to the largest of the game at 66-52 with 7:35 remaining.
The Cougars finished the game on a 20-11 run that included eight points from Latane and four from Jamison. Kean was able to bring the lead down to two with under a minute to play but couldn't sink the go-ahead bucket. The Ospreys went 3-for-3 from the line during the final minute to ice the game.
Nate Lyles added 10 points and six boards.
Head Coach Adam Hutchinson and the Cougars will return to action in Morristown, N.J. on Tuesday, Dec. 18th, against the Eagles the College of Saint Elizabeth at 7:00 p.m.
