UNION, N.J. (3/10/12) – The Kean University men's lacrosse team pulled away from Elizabethtown College for the 6-1 victory in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore John Marcelli scored twice for the Cougars (4-1) and sophomore Richard Cheifitz (pictured left) added a goal and two assists in the victory. For the Blue Jays (2-2) goalkeeper Brendan Corcoran finished with 11 saves.
Kean took a 2-0 lead after the first quarter, as senior Nick Angrisani (10:37) and Chefitz (1:29) each had unassisted goals.
After a scoreless second quarter, Kean extended the lead to 3-0 early in the third quarter, as Marcelli scored a man-up off the assist from Cheifitz at the 14:20 mark. Just over two minutes later, Elizabethtown junior Cory Boushell pulled the Blue Jays to within 3-1. However Kean would score the final three goals of the game to pull away for the five-goal victory.
Kean held a 29-21 edge in shots and won 8-of-11 faceoffs. Junior goalkeeper Lane Zierten stopped 10 shots for Kean. Freshman Jonathan Foss won 7-of-8 faceoffs and picked up five groundballs.
The Cougars host Lasell College on Wednesday, March 14, at 7 p.m.
