UNION, N.J. (4/21/15) – The Kean University men's lacrosse team was tied 3-3 at the end of the first quarter with rival Montclair State University on Wednesday night, but the Red Hawks scored eight second quarter goals to pull ahead for the 15-7 Skyline Conference win.
Kean kept things close to start. Anthony Perrotta scored the game's first goal and then set up Matt Speciale for a game-tying tally to make the count 2-2. With just one second remaining on the first period clock, Anthony Carpenter netted his 27th goal of the season to knot the game once more at 3-3.
But Montclair came out in the second quarter and outscored the Cougars 8-0 in the period to take command of the night. The Red Hawks also scored the first goal of the second half to make it a 9-0 run. Perrotta set up Speciale at 10:43 of the third to finally stop the streak, but the Cougars could not make up the difference.
Brett Mangan led Montclair with four goals and two assists on the night. Connor Cunningham and Zach Schreck also had hat tricks for the Red Hawks.
In addition to Perrotta's team-leading four points, Ed Adams (pictured left) was another bright spot for Kean. The junior won 10-fo-17 faceoffs and scooped up five ground balls. Goaltender Maxwell Fields led the team with seven pickups off the ground.
The Cougars will close out the regular season on Saturday with a 4 p.m. game against Mount Saint Mary College. With a win, Kean will clinch a spot in the Skyline Conference playoffs. Saturday will also see Senior Day celebrations before the first faceoff.
