UNION, N.J. (3/2/16) – Senior Matt Speciale had seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) to lead the Kean University men's lacrosse team to a 22-3 victory over Western Connecticut State University at home on Wednesday. Speciale and Eric Talbot both recorded hat tricks in the game.
The first 10 minutes of the game were tight. Kean hit the post twice in that time, but was up just 1-0 on an unassisted goal by Talbot. The Cougar offense finally flourished in final four minutes to take 4-0 lead after the first quarter.
The Cougars wound up scoring the eight unanswered goals to start the game, and the contest was never close after that. Ed Adams won 14-of-17 faceoffs with 11 groundballs to tilt the possession heavily in Kean's favor. Alex Torres won 5-7 faceoffs for Kean and earned an additional five ground balls.
Ciro Ulinski (pictured left) led the Cougars with four forced turnovers.
Goaltender Maxwell Fields had four saves on the way to his second victory of the year.
Nate Wilson had a goal and an assist for the Colonials, who fell to 0-2. Kean is 2-0 on the young season.
The Cougars will now embark on a three-game Texas roadtrip over spring break. The Cougars will tangle with Trine University, Misericordia University and Southwestern University – all in Georgetown, Texas. The games kick off on Tuesday against Trine at 4 p.m.
