Speciale Scores Six in Men’s Lacrosse Win

UNION, N.J. (4/13/16) – The Kean University men's lacrosse team demolished Bard College 14-3 at home on Wednesday night. Senior Matt Speciale scored six times for the Cougars, including a natural hat trick in the third quarter.

Joe Norton, Mike Snellen and Speciale scored the first three goals of the night, and the Cougars led 4-2 after the first quarter. Bard scored again with 9:25 left in the second period but after that goaltender Maxwell Fields and the Kean defense blanked the Raptors (4-7) over the final 39:55 of game time.

Anthony Carpenter added two goals and an assist; a total of eight different Kean players scored. Neil Bortolus assisted Sean Conway for the only goal of the fourth quarter for either side.

Ed Adams won11-of-15 faceoffs and also led the Cougars with six ground balls; the team earned 40 ground balls total during the game. Speciale added another five to the team's total.

Mike Cestaro (pictured left), Ciro Ulinski, Danny Rito and Carpenter all caused multiple Bard turnovers. Kean outshot the Raptors 38-19 and was successful on 19-of-24 clear attempts.

The Cougars (8-4) will hit the road for a Skyline Conference matchup at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Mount Saint Mary College of New York.
