NEWBURGH, N.Y. (4/16/16) – Senior Ed Adams won 24-of-27 faceoffs while Matt Speciale, Matt Brodley and Anthony Perrotta all posted hat tricks to give the Kean University men's lacrosse team a wild 12-11 Skyline Conference victory over Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday. Cougar goaltender Maxwell Fields made a final save with two seconds on the clock to preserve the win.
Kean was trailing 4-2 early in the second quarter, but a goal by Brodley assisted by Mike Cestaro sparked a 4-1 run to end the first half. Perrotta scored the next two Cougar goals and Brodley hit again with 45 seconds remaining to give the Cougars a 6-5 edge at the break.
Kean scored six goals in the third quarter to maintain their lead 12-8. Speciale, Perrotta and Brodley each scored to earn their hat tricks. The remaining tallies came from Mike Snellen and Talbot - assisted by Snellen.
The Knights (10-3, 1-2) came alive in the final quarter, scoring three unanswered goals to come within one of a tying score. Fields made his fourth and final save of the afternoon just as the buzzer ran out to solidify the Kean win as the Cougars withstood the fourth quarter surge.
Adams (pictured left) had one assist, picked up a career-best sixteen ground balls for the Cougars and was nearly unbeatable on faceoffs, winning 24 out of the 27 draws he took.
