UNION, N.J. (3/20/18)- Ryan Sieb tied a career-high with 18 saves as the Kean University men's lacrosse team remained undefeated at home with a 8-6 victory over Oberlin College on Tuesday evening.
Mike Snellen finished with five points on three goals and two assists for the Cougars who improve to 4-2 overall. Tom Decker finished with three points on two goals and one assist for the Yeomen who fall to 5-2 overall.
Kean jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two goals from Scott Royster and a goal and an assist from Snellen. Despite Sieb making seven saves in the second quarter, Oberlin scored two unanswered goals including netting a goal just before halftime. Kean maintained a 4-2 advantage at the break.
Sieb notched nine saves in the second half, as the Cougars held the advantage throughout the second stanza. Kean increased their lead to 7-4 on a Snellen goal with 7:59 remaining in the fourth. Oberlin scored two unanswered goals by Ian McCague and Decker, which cut Kean's lead to 7-6 with 6:02 remaining.
Kean would respond just over a minute later when Jake Frankovits scored an unassisted goal to put the Cougars back up 8-6 with 5:10 remaining. Sieb made two clutch saves in the final five minutes, including a save with no time remaining.
Matt Palmieri finished with nine groundballs and two caused turnovers, while Tom Kelly scooped up six groundballs in the victory. Sieb tied his career-high set in the 5-3 victory over SUNY Maritime on Mar. 24th, 2017.
Head Coach Shelley Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action in Doylestown, Pa. on Sat. Mar. 24th, against the Aggies of Delaware Valley University at 4:00 p.m.
