Snellen’s Late Heroics Propels Men’s Lacrosse Past Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (3/24/18)- Mike Snellen scored the game-winning goal with 2:42 remaining in overtime to propel the Kean University men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 overtime victory over Delaware Valley University on Saturday afternoon.

Snellen finished with six points on four goals and two assists for the Cougars who improve to 5-2 overall. Chris Coyle finished with six points on four goals and two assists for the Aggies who fall to 2-5 overall.

After a back and forth 55 minutes, which saw neither team take more than a two-goal advantage, Kean still trailed 8-7 on a goal by the Aggies Jordan Smith. Snellen, who went scoreless in the first half, notched two goals to open the second half and pull Kean out of a 5-4 halftime deficit.

Snellen wasn't finished as he would collect a hat-trick with the game-tying goal with 18 seconds remaining to force overtime.

After Connor Baucom won the opening faceoff, the Cougars immediately called timeout. When Kean broke the huddle, the Cougars worked the ball around as they attempted to get off a good shot. The ball ended up with Tyler Roberto, who made a quick cut past his defender and found a wide-open Snellen. Snellen ripped a low sidearm shot past the keeper for the game-winning score.

Roberto finished with three points on two goals and one assist, while Jake Frankovits totaled three points on two assists and one goal. Andrew Yenesel notched a goal and an assist, while Cole Blackley tallied a goal. Matt Palmieri finished with seven groundballs and three caused turnovers, while Ryan Sieb improved to 5-2 with eight saves in 63:18 of work between the pipes.

Head Coach Shelley Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 28th, hosting the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College at 7:00 p.m.
