ASTON, Pa. (5/29/18) – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) is proud to announce that Kean University, Montclair State University and Stockton University have all been accepted as associate members in the sport of men's lacrosse effective July 1, 2018.
The three institutions, which are core members of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), will join Bryn Athyn College, Centenary University, Keystone College and Rosemont College as participating members in men's lacrosse. All three institutions will be immediately eligible for All-CSAC awards and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
"The CSAC Board of Directors and I are excited about the addition of these three reputable institutions to our conference as associate members," said Dr. David Haney, President of Centenary University and chair of the CSAC Board of Directors. "We look forward seeing them compete in our conference in Spring 2019."
The NJAC does not sponsor men's lacrosse as a conference sport, and the three schools had previously played as associate members in the Skyline Conference. They were independent members in men's lacrosse last season.
"For the better part of two years we have monitored the ever-changing landscape of men's lacrosse conference sponsorship to see if we can find a spot that would be an excellent fit for our school athletically and geographically", stated athletic director Jack McKiernan. "We believe that our men's lacrosse student-athlete experience was hurt by not being a being a part of a conference this past season. I believe that this is a tremendous opportunity for Kean University and our student-athletes and we look forward to our new membership to the Colonial States Athletic Conference to create new and exciting rivalries. Kean has a long-standing tradition of competition between many CSAC schools that dates back many years."
"The addition of these three competitive programs will strengthen the already formidable profile of men's lacrosse in the CSAC," said Adrienne Mullikin, Commissioner of the CSAC. "Our core members are looking forward to developing new rivalries with these three programs and I am thrilled to be able to provide this quality experience for our student-athletes."
Kean University, located in Union, N.J., posted a record of 12-6 last season. The Cougars were Skyline Conference Champions in 2008.
Montclair State University, located in Montclair, N.J., won nine Skyline Conference Championships from 2009-2017, and registered a 9-6 record in 2018.
Stockton University, located in Galloway, N.J., went 12-4 in 2018 and won the ECAC tournament after defeating Kean, 19-6, and Muhlenberg College, 14-12.
